Sugarfina Waikiki

4

Why do these candy stores keep popping up all over the place?!  Don’t they know that sweet shops are my weakness?!  Last week the new International Market Place opened up in Waikiki.  For those of you who have been to Waikiki in the past you may remember the market place… well it’s nothing like it was before.  But we’ll just save that for another post.  Let’s just say that it’s not the same “bargain with the vendor” shopping like it used to be.  Now it’s expensive shops everywhere!  Among those expensive stores, that I probably won’t ever walk into, is this cutest candy shop called Sugarfina.  I saw one in San Francisco but never went in.

It’s so pretty and inviting that I couldn’t help myself and had to check it out.  It is pretty pricey, but your treats come in the cutest packaging and everything looks so beautiful. There’s such a wide variety of “boutique” style candies, I had to pick up a couple of things for the kids (and myself of course).  The saleswoman told me that what was unique about their shop is that they get their candy imported from all over the world.  I also love that this candy store seems to cater to grown-ups with their Champagne Gummy Bear, Peach Bellini Gummies, Pale Ale Pint Gummies and their Maple Bourbon Caramels just to name a few.

They also customize their labels for special events like weddings, showers and birthdays. So if you got the cash to spend this may be something perfect for your next party.

The Beauty Crop- PBJ Smoothie Stick

I love the smoothness of this.  Feels like chap stick (which I love) but… this color is not for me. It’s too pink for me.

Whish Shave Crave

Not a fan!  When I shave I like a really good thick lather. This product doesn’t lather and reminds me more of a lotion.  I used it on my legs and it was fine but I practically used the whole sample, once again because of the no-lather.  Definitely wouldn’t spend $24 on this product.

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel.

I don’t usually color in my brows because they’re already thick.  But this product is soooo easy to use and apply.  It gives a subtle amount of tint that looks very natural.  For those who draw, color in or need to cover up bald spots this is a great product that you should try.

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion

This product gave a great yet gentle exfoliation that left my face feeling smooth and squeaky clean.  Didn’t really see a difference with my pores but I’m sure if you use it over time it would be noticeable.  I’m considering buying this product and using it over time to really see the benefits.

Juice Beauty Oil-Free Moisturizer

Even though it’s oil-free I found my skin feeling oily. Not sure why that is but I didn’t like how long it took for the product to settle.  I actually ended up blotting it so that I could apply my makeup.

Obsessed with WISH

I was introduced to this app about a month ago and I’m so obsessed with it.  It’s called Wish and it’s addicting. Even if I’m not buying anything I find myself scrolling through all the cool stuff.  You can find so many things, things that are hard to find in stores.  I love that you can read reviews from others who have purchased the product and at least have an idea of the quality of product that you’re getting.  Here are just a few of the products that I’ve ordered and received so far.

I got the bracelet on the left for free just for signing up.  These super cute earrings were only $1.

These makeup brushes were only $5.  Not all of the brushes are of great quality but I do like the a few of them a lot so $5 is more than worth it.  This cute purse was only $1 (it only comes with one)  I chose the one with the Eiffel tower.  It’s perfect for your loose coins.

I paid $4 for the face cleaner.  What a score for a battery operated face scrubber.  The decals for the kitchen only cost me $2

So far I’m satisfied with everything that I’ve received.  If you haven’t checked out this site, you must!  They have things for babies too.  Be warned though, it’s really addicting.  I set a budget!  I don’t spend more than $10 a week and with these prices it’s a good budget.

Candy Bar Hawaii

I love me some sweet shops!  Especially candy bars that allow you to fill your bag with whatever you want!  This one in Waikiki is so cute and they have some really cool customized lollipops.

It’s a little bit pricey but not uncommon in Waikiki.  When you walk into this shop you are hit with the smell of chocolate and cotton candy.  You’ll find some popular products that we locals enjoy like li-hing mui flavored gummies, chocolate covered mochi crunch, crack seeds and green tea ice cream.

You’ll also find the cutest t-shirts and apparel with the cutest quotes.  In Hawaii we have a saying “If can, can.  If no can, no can”  sort of like saying “if you can do it then great, but if you can’t then you can’t help it”.  So I love this t-shirt.

Warning!  If you have kids monitor them or you’ll be sorry when you see your total at the register.

Easter Basket For A Teenage Boy

So my boys are not that into Easter.  No dyeing of Easter eggs, no egg hunting and no participation in any of the games.  But like ANYONE they’re always excited about their Easter Baskets.  Here are the things that I usually include in their Easter Baskets.

Easter Basket for teens

  1. Movie Gift Card–  This will NEVER go to waste when it comes to my boys.
  2. Skin Care Set–  I’m buying this all year round, but it’s perfect to include.
  3. Personal Gift–  I like to include either a hat, t-shirt or some nice socks.  This Aloha Army hat is something both my boys will love.
  4. Snacks–  You can’t have an Easter basket without some treats!

Hawaiian Aroma

Hawaiian Aroma

This little cafe just opened up in the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber hotel.  It’s an open air cafe located right off to the side of the pool. They offer not only coffee, but fresh sandwiches, pastries and Italian Sodas or Cremosa (Italian soda with cream).

The prices are a little on the high-end which is totally expected in Waikiki, but even after letting them know that I was Kama’aina (local resident) they didn’t offer me a discount *sad face*.  So unfortunately I only bought a Peach Cremosa that costs me a whopping $6+ with tax. The taste was die-licious, but come on I know what goes into an Italian Soda and that is pretty damn expensive for a 16oz cup!

Being that this is more expensive than Starbucks, without the reward program I should add, I may not be going back here too often.  It is a really beautiful cafe though.  If a couple of co-workers wanted to grab some coffee and lounge for a bit I would definitely spend the extra cash for the comfort.

Magnolia Bakery Ala Moana

I remember lying in my hospital bed watching the news after giving birth to my daughter and seeing that Magnolia Bakery was having its grand opening at Ala Moana.  I told my cousin who was with me at the time “OMG that’s the famous bakery in NYC that was on Sex and the City” and she replied “Hello and The Devil Wears Prada!”.   It’s taken me a whole 4 months to finally get my Magnolia cupcake experience.  Yesterday my sister and I headed over to Ala Moana for a day of shopping (and cupcakes). On the way my sister told me that their banana pudding is what they’re really known for, so of course I tasted both.

The cafe is the cutest place ever.  I’m totally remodeling our kitchen to look like this.  It’s so fresh looking.

We had other plans for lunch, so we ended up getting our treats from the little kiosk they have set up just outside.

The selection of sweet treats they have all look so yummy, I really have to go back and try them all.  We were so full after lunch that I ended up getting a classic vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting & of course their famous banana pudding. 5 stars for both.  I love their frosting, you can taste the little sugar granules as you chew.  As for their banana pudding?  Yup, probably the best I’ve ever had, and guess what?  I read their little cookbook and they have the recipe for it in there and it’s so simple!  I’ll definitely making some of this pudding at home.
