Sugarfina Waikiki

Why do these candy stores keep popping up all over the place?!  Don’t they know that sweet shops are my weakness?!  Last week the new International Market Place opened up in Waikiki.  For those of you who have been to Waikiki in the past you may remember the market place… well it’s nothing like it was before.  But we’ll just save that for another post.  Let’s just say that it’s not the same “bargain with the vendor” shopping like it used to be.  Now it’s expensive shops everywhere!  Among those expensive stores, that I probably won’t ever walk into, is this cutest candy shop called Sugarfina.  I saw one in San Francisco but never went in.

It’s so pretty and inviting that I couldn’t help myself and had to check it out.  It is pretty pricey, but your treats come in the cutest packaging and everything looks so beautiful. There’s such a wide variety of “boutique” style candies, I had to pick up a couple of things for the kids (and myself of course).  The saleswoman told me that what was unique about their shop is that they get their candy imported from all over the world.  I also love that this candy store seems to cater to grown-ups with their Champagne Gummy Bear, Peach Bellini Gummies, Pale Ale Pint Gummies and their Maple Bourbon Caramels just to name a few.

They also customize their labels for special events like weddings, showers and birthdays. So if you got the cash to spend this may be something perfect for your next party.

Candy Bar Hawaii

I love me some sweet shops!  Especially candy bars that allow you to fill your bag with whatever you want!  This one in Waikiki is so cute and they have some really cool customized lollipops.

It’s a little bit pricey but not uncommon in Waikiki.  When you walk into this shop you are hit with the smell of chocolate and cotton candy.  You’ll find some popular products that we locals enjoy like li-hing mui flavored gummies, chocolate covered mochi crunch, crack seeds and green tea ice cream.

You’ll also find the cutest t-shirts and apparel with the cutest quotes.  In Hawaii we have a saying “If can, can.  If no can, no can”  sort of like saying “if you can do it then great, but if you can’t then you can’t help it”.  So I love this t-shirt.

Warning!  If you have kids monitor them or you’ll be sorry when you see your total at the register.

Hawaiian Aroma

Hawaiian Aroma

This little cafe just opened up in the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber hotel.  It’s an open air cafe located right off to the side of the pool. They offer not only coffee, but fresh sandwiches, pastries and Italian Sodas or Cremosa (Italian soda with cream).

The prices are a little on the high-end which is totally expected in Waikiki, but even after letting them know that I was Kama’aina (local resident) they didn’t offer me a discount *sad face*.  So unfortunately I only bought a Peach Cremosa that costs me a whopping $6+ with tax. The taste was die-licious, but come on I know what goes into an Italian Soda and that is pretty damn expensive for a 16oz cup!

Being that this is more expensive than Starbucks, without the reward program I should add, I may not be going back here too often.  It is a really beautiful cafe though.  If a couple of co-workers wanted to grab some coffee and lounge for a bit I would definitely spend the extra cash for the comfort.

Magnolia Bakery Ala Moana

I remember lying in my hospital bed watching the news after giving birth to my daughter and seeing that Magnolia Bakery was having its grand opening at Ala Moana.  I told my cousin who was with me at the time “OMG that’s the famous bakery in NYC that was on Sex and the City” and she replied “Hello and The Devil Wears Prada!”.   It’s taken me a whole 4 months to finally get my Magnolia cupcake experience.  Yesterday my sister and I headed over to Ala Moana for a day of shopping (and cupcakes). On the way my sister told me that their banana pudding is what they’re really known for, so of course I tasted both.

The cafe is the cutest place ever.  I’m totally remodeling our kitchen to look like this.  It’s so fresh looking.

We had other plans for lunch, so we ended up getting our treats from the little kiosk they have set up just outside.

The selection of sweet treats they have all look so yummy, I really have to go back and try them all.  We were so full after lunch that I ended up getting a classic vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting & of course their famous banana pudding. 5 stars for both.  I love their frosting, you can taste the little sugar granules as you chew.  As for their banana pudding?  Yup, probably the best I’ve ever had, and guess what?  I read their little cookbook and they have the recipe for it in there and it’s so simple!  I’ll definitely making some of this pudding at home.

Mu’umu’u Heaven

Whenever I would go walking around Kailua town I’d always stop by this cute little boutique store and just browse around.  I love boutique shops where you can find unique items that you can’t find anywhere else.  This shop has it all… accessories, things for the home, clothing and even fun little goodies like ornaments during Christmas.  Yesterday when I was walking around Waikiki I came across their little hut in the DFS Galleria.  So for all of you visiting Hawaii soon and want to pick up some gifts to take back home I highly recommend that you visit their shop.  I was really surprised that they didn’t up the prices being in Waikiki.  I think the prices are pretty awesome considering how expensive things are here.   Click here to visit their site.

L’occitane Arlesienne

My co-worker introduced me to this scent last week and since then I’ve been wanting to purchase it.  Well yesterday I finally went down to purchase it only to find that on me it’s very different than it is on her. I ended up not purchasing it and instead purchasing this La Collection de Grasse mini set. P.aspxEach of these smelled so nice when I first put them on different points of my skin- but faded to a very powdery scent (which I don’t like).  In the end I found myself getting a headache, so I’ll be returning them.  However, the Arlesienne faded to a very pretty scent that I loved.  Funny how that worked out huh?  So what I originally went to purchase I will be going back to get and returning the other.  This is some good advice when it comes to fragrances- try it on your skin and wear it for a while and see how you like it before purchasing it.
